The Rehearsal Artist looks at one middle-aged skinny white woman’s body and explores how its meaning and function shift as it coincides with other bodies in the context of a reoccurring, highly structured rehearsal with a perpetually changing cast. For 21 days, for two hours a day, the work occurs behind one-way Plexiglas. Every “rehearsal” is videoed and then incorporated into the following performances. The Rehearsal Artist functions as a dance performance, an installation, and social science experiment.
