ABOUT THE GRANT
- $10,000 to Center for New Music to support At The Point Where The Rivers Crossed, We Drew Our Knives (MAP 2017)
- $2,223 to general operating support for Raven Chacon and The Living Earth Show
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Raven Chacon and The Living Earth Show will enact an opera depicting the urgent but stealthily approaching crisis of water shortage which will burden the region spanning from California to the Navajo deserts. Using The Living Earth Show’s battery of effected guitars and mixed percussion, in addition to amplified antlers, tape reels, and water as a dynamic percussion instrument, Chacon will synthesize electro-acoustic noises, traditional Navajo music, field recordings, and extended classical chamber music techniques. The opera will be presented in a venue completely flooded with water, which will itself be struck and manipulated by percussionist Andy Meyerson.
